UNIROMA I – Sapienza University of Rome 

Sapienza Univeristy of Rome (UNIROMA1), Italy  is the largest University in Europe, committed to advancing knowledge through interdisciplinary approaches and societal engagement. Within META-MUSEUM, UNIROMA1 aims to bridge neuroscience, cultural heritage, and digital innovation to foster more inclusive, participatory, and emotionally engaging cultural experiences. Its vision is to contribute to transforming museums into spaces that enhance empathy, critical thinking, and resilience among diverse audiences and to virtually bring cultural heritage into hospitals. 

Role in META-MUSEUM 

UNIROMA1 contributes to both the theoretical and experimental components of the project. The team is involved in designing research methodologies, analysing user responses (cognitive, emotional, and behavioural), and contributing to the interpretation of results. It also supports dissemination and scientific communication activities. 

Uniroma1 team is leader for WP7, and involved partner in WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6, WP9

Expertise & Capabilities 

UNIROMA1 has strong expertise in cognitive science, neuroscience, psychometry and behavioural research applied to cultural experiences. It is highly experienced in designing experimental protocols, measuring cognitive and emotional responses, and analysing complex datasets. 

UNIROMA1 provides an interdisciplinary perspective, integrating humanities and scientific methodologies to measure emotional and cognitive impact generated by cultural experiences. Its contribution is particularly relevant in linking theoretical insights with empirical validation, supporting the development of evidence-based tools and guidelines for cultural institutions. 

Relevant Past Experience 

UNIROMA1 already collaborated with POLITO in the Italian project Neuro-Museum.
