KMOP

Kentro Merimnas Oikogeneias Kai Paidiou (KMOP) was founded in Greece in 1977 with the mission of combating poverty, strengthening social cohesion and safeguarding fundamental human rights. Over the years, the organisation has expanded its work to address emerging social challenges faced by modern societies, including social isolation, inequalities, sustainable development, demographic ageing and the societal implications of artificial intelligence. 

KMOP has extensive experience in the field of mental health, providing community-based social services and online counselling that support the wellbeing of individuals and communities. Through its network of public and private sector partners, including civil society organisations, KMOP also contributes valuable expertise from the social sciences and humanities, with a strong focus on gender equality and social inclusion. 

The organisation actively promotes the participation of diverse target groups to ensure inclusive and impactful interventions. In addition, KMOP has established long-standing collaborations with museums and cultural institutions across Greece. 

Drawing on its broad expertise in social policy, research and service provision, KMOP ensures the consistent application of the five principles of the Rights-Based Approach, as well as ethical standards and gender equality, integrating them throughout every stage of the project cycle.

Role in META-MUSEUM 

KMOP plays a central role in Work Package 2 of the TransforMEANS theory, leading the development of its theoretical and methodological foundations. KMOP has contributed on the conceptual framework to understand transformative processes in Cultural Heritage which will be finalized at the conclusion of the project, incorporating insights from the entire implementation phase. Additionally, KMOP has carried out a comprehensive analysis of stakeholders and audiences, providing key insights into the transformative potential of Cultural Heritage interventions. It has also developed an extensive model for the assessment and interpretation of experiments, including matrices, indicators, and parameters, to ensure a systematic evaluation of outcomes and impacts throughout the project. KMOP actively supports the project’s ethics committee and participates in cross-sectoral activities for the duration of the project.

KMOP operates across multiple fields, including research and policy, mental health and well‑being, human rights protection, civic participation, and education. Its work integrates evidence‑based research with applied social action to address complex societal challenges and promote inclusive, resilient communities. Drawing on decades of field experience, KMOP has developed a strong capacity to translate practical insights from service delivery into robust policy recommendations and methodological tools that support sustainable social change. By bridging theoretical analysis with practice‑oriented frameworks, KMOP enhances the effectiveness of interventions and contributes to informed decision‑making at local, national and European levels. 

Relevant Past Experience 

KMOP has established a strong and diverse expertise through its participation in research intensive projects emphasising on social impact, demonstrating leadership in social innovation, inclusion, and evidence-based policy design. Through projects such as BENEFITS and EqualsEU, KMOP advances inclusive social service evaluation frameworks and equality-driven approaches, while initiatives like EXIT and GEPINC highlight its capacity to address structural inequalities and promote gender inclusivity. Its work in migration and social integration is reflected in MORE and REFUGEED, focusing on sustainable policy alternatives and psychosocial support. Additionally, KMOP contributes to democratic engagement and societal resilience through MULTIPOD and Participation. In the fields of health and education, projects like NATURE LAB, REVERS-ED, and SCIREARLY further demonstrate KMOP’s commitment to improving well-being and tackling educational disparities through research-driven interventions. Collectively, this portfolio underscores KMOP’s multidisciplinary expertise in designing, implementing, and scaling impactful solutions to complex social challenges across Europe.
