The European Museum Academy (EMA) a volunteer society of museum experts from different national and cultural backgrounds, united for the advancement of knowledge in museology. The work of EMA is based on a curriculum of proved capacity in developing and managing innovative museum projects. Museums are a relevant tool to confront socio-economic and cultural challenges in contemporary society. The Academy subscribes to the role of the modern museum as a meeting place and a forum for the development of scientific debate, creativity, social cohesion and cultural dialogue.
EMA has developed an extensive awards scheme: the European Museum Academy Prize, the Luigi Micheletti Award, the DASA Award, the Heritage in Motion Award, and the Master Study of the Year Award. The Academy is also a partner in other award schemes, including the Children in Museums Award, the Živa Award and the Museum in Short Awards. The different awards represent and emphasize different aspects of the European Museum Academy’s underlying values.
EMA is represented in most European countries and our pool of experts consists of experts from both the museum practice and the research side.
