META-MUSEUM Advances the Theoretical Framework for Transformative Cultural Heritage

The META-MUSEUM project, funded by the European Union, is making significant progress in redefining cultural heritage (CH) through Work Package 2, titled “Theoretical Framework and TransForMeans Theory.” This work package aims to establish a groundbreaking framework that highlights CH’s potential to foster empathy, resilience, and confidence among citizens, while increasing societal cohesion.

As part of the ongoing stakeholder and audience analysis, KMOP and OPI-PIB are leading a study with contributions from the European Museum Academy (EMA) and MIET. The study includes:

    • Expert Interviews: Conducting 15 to 20 interviews by December 2024 with museum professionals, museologists, and mental health experts to gather qualitative insights.
    • Online Surveys: Gathering data from over 50 participants by February 2025 to explore perceptions of CH’s transformative nature.

This preliminary study will inform the development of representative participant samples, metrics, and assessment tools for future experiments. It will also contribute to the iterative refinement of the TransForMeans Theory (TMt), a key outcome of the project. TMt will be further enhanced through pilot activities and will underpin educational modules to be developed later in the project.

Through WP2, META-MUSEUM is laying the foundation for understanding and enhancing the societal benefits of cultural heritage, ultimately transforming its role in creating a more empathetic and resilient society.
