META-MUSEUM NEWSLETTER – 4

newsletter title with META-MUSEUM logo text

End-of-First-Year Greetings,

Dear META-MUSEUM readers, with October finally approaching we would like to take the chance to take stock of our first year activity within the project. A great share of work was carried out, effort poured in from all sides, setting the Consortium on the right path for the work awaiting.

During this first year we got the chance to outline the framework of the project and with its development the different expertise and competences coming from all partners started contaminating one another, building the transdisciplinarity META-MUSEUM goals rely onto.

Two more years await, two more years of intense exchange between the partners and effort towards the project goals, and the ultimate establishment of effective cultural heritage communication, understanding, transformation and confidence.

Thanks to our Partners for the work already carried out, and thank you all for joining us during this very first year!

Hoping to see our community grow even larger in the next years, with the best wishes to our community and us all,

Valeria Minucciani, Coordinator.

Discover Advancements Across META-MUSEUM

Our latest update showcases significant progress. Recent research has delivered actionable recommendations to help cultural institutions reach all audience groups—including those often overlooked. Development is underway on innovative measurement tools that will help museums understand not just attendance, but visitor feelings and thoughts. New educational modules will soon bring these insights to museum professionals everywhere. The project is also pioneering digital adventures with smart data systems and location-based tech to customize museum visits and make people actively participate in content co-creation. Creative prototypes are currently under development to make the encounter with cultural heritage engaging and interactive, encouraging a deeper connection and curiosity among visitors. Ongoing experiments in Amsterdam are unlocking how our brains and bodies react to culture, helping museums inspire deeper empathy and confidence through a mix of traditional and AI-powered exhibit elements. As the analysis of recent campaigns wraps up, all eyes are on making the next generation of exhibits even more memorable and meaningful for visitors everywhere. In Our Spotlight

The META-MUSEUM project participated in the UNIGHT activities in Turin, which was part of the European Researchers’ Night. Collaborating with teams from POLITO, VILNIUS TECH, and STICHTING VU, and using a Bibliobus (a library on wheels) provided by the Turin Municipality, the researchers tested a simplified version of the M4 system of VILNIUS TECH, by reaching over 150 attendees and asking them to watch partner museums’ videos while a camera tracked their facial micro-movements to gauge real-time emotional responses. The event was a success, generating significant public interest. Read more about it by clicking here.

META-MUSEUM shares insights across Europe

This autumn, the META-MUSEUM team has been busy presenting fresh perspectives on cultural heritage at major conferences across Europe. At the Digital Heritage Conference in Siena, Prof. Dr. Sander Münster spotlighted how the project is using digital tools to build more sustainable and engaging museum experiences. Next, Dr. Ying Sun will explore how sound can stir emotions at Mafra’s Sound in Museums event, and review emotional interaction in heritage at Vienna’s CHNT 2025. Read more by clicking here.

At the European Museum Academy’s annual gathering in Budapest, the team introduced TMt based training modules to museum professionals. There was strong interest in impact measurement tools, with lively exchanges on how museums can make a lasting difference for visitors. Key issues included balancing goals of empathy and resilience, and the need for methods that consider visitor diversity and long-term effects. Read more by clicking here.
